OUR MISSION:

We are an independent citizen advocacy organisation whose primary purpose is to give people with learning disabilities a strong voice in decision-making. Citizen advocates empower people with learning disabilities to choose their own role in society and, wherever possible, help them to connect with their local community.

A citizen advocate is an ordinary member of the public who wishes to be included in the life of someone labelled as having a learning disability. Advocates help to improve the quality of their advocacy partner’s life by standing alongside them, helping them to speak up, or speaking on their behalf when necessary. An advocate also helps people with learning disabilities to be seen and acknowledged as vaulable members of society and to be included in local community life.

Over the past 10 years, Powerful Partnerships have developed a strong base of knowledge and experience through working alongside people who are marginalized and socially excluded.  Our office is based in the west of Edinburgh, though we cover the whole of the city in order to continue reaching people who require our intervention.

Powerful Partnerships would like to thank City of Edinburgh Council, NHS Lothian, Lloyds TSB Foundation and Royal Bank Of Scotland for their continued funding and support.
