For quite some time we have been looking
at creative ways of including advocacy partners in the decision making
process of the organisation.
In September 2002, a group of partners
met with staff and one Board Member and created what we now refer to as the Partners Committee. The Committee have gone from strength
to strength initially getting involved in the design
of a leaflet accessible to people with learning disabilities. This
has now developed into their involvement in making a video, the first
in Scotland for Citizen Advocacy, and delivering a presentation at
our AGM. The Partners Committee continue to meet on a monthly basis.
The Partners Committee has made a huge difference to not only the partners involved but also the interaction with the Board of Directors. Confidences have been built, friendships
have been made and people are beginning to speak out when they are
in the group. This is another example of Powerful Partnerships being
invited to include users in a decision-making process.
